This non-minimal example (modified from a document that originally
called biblatex-chicago directly) works for me:
\usepackage[style=chicago-authordate, giveninits=true,
uniquename=mininit, noibid, sortcites=true, backend=biber,
bibencoding=utf8]{biblatex}
