GNU Emacs 23.1.50.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.18.0) of
2009-09-27 on palmer, modified by Debian

Yes it does! I commented out:

;;(if (or (< emacs-major-version 23)
;;	(and (<= emacs-major-version 23)
;;	     (< emacs-minor-version 2)))
;;    (defmacro with-silent-modifications
;;      (org-unmodified)))

and it now works correctly. Thanks a lot!
