Yes, it sounds like Babel isn't configured yet.  Here is what I use:

      (gnuplot . nil)
      (haskell . nil)

      (python . t)

      (screen . nil)
      (sh . t)
      (sql . nil)
      (sqlite . t)))

You can adjust it to your needs by changing t and nil appropriately.
