Yes, same here.

C-g

makes emacs react again and inserts the desired item too.

I'll cc emacs-ormode mailing list (i.e. emacs-orgmode@gnu.org), which I
think is the right list for this.

Fixed in the org-development version.
Fix will move into Emacs within a week or so.
