* error while updating from git

I tried to update org from git. and after doing the pull, i get the
following error:
$ git pull && make clean && make && make doc

In toplevel form:
lisp/org-latex.el:1699:29:Error: Invalid read syntax: ")"
make: *** [lisp/org-latex.elc] Error 1

My emacs version is: 23.0.91.1 on Ubuntu 64bit.
