Hi,
I don't know how to install the contents of the contrib folder. I need especially the mac specific additions. Is just the copying of the .el files in my site-lisp directory enough?

No need to copy; simply add that directory (aka folder) to the load
path:
(add-to-list 'load-path ".../contrib/lisp")
where the dots in the last argument should be replaced by the full path
to wherever org has been placed on your system. On my system, I do:
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/git/org-mode/contrib/lisp/")
