Hello,

is there a way to use markup (bold, italic, etc.) only for parts of a word?

For example, I am trying to edit man pages using Org mode. To follow the
usual font conventions, I would have to write something like this:

  - *--reference*=/FILE/ :: (explain the option "reference"),

but Org mode does not recognize the word boundaries. Is it possible to insert
an explicit word separator that is simply ignored when the file is exported?

Thanks,
Holger

Please have a look at `org-emphasis-regexp-components' and customize it
to your needs.
