The org-timeline documentation at

seems no longer correct?
(also, I think it's unfortunate that the timeline agenda mode was
removed -- I found it quite useful.)

Right, but you already removed it in e46676bd1 (org.texi: Remove
references to Timeline view, 2017-01-09). I can't find "Timeline"
listed at <http://orgmode.org/manual/>. Perhaps the site has retained
an unlinked, stale html file?
