Start gconf-editor and navigate to
system->storage->default_options->vfat

edit the key 'mount_options' and change it's value to:
  [shortname=mixed,uid=]

That's it.

Now, indeed,

 git clone -l --no-hardlinks --bare org/ /media/BLUE/git/org

works like a charm.
