I too have wanted something like this.  In fact, it is one of the
motivations behind my org-export-generic functionality I posted here a
while ago.  I'm long overdue to post another copy but have been
completely swamped lately and it's preventing me from getting another
copy out.

I'll try to get a copy out this week, as things are finally looking a
bit less swamped.
