have you tried these settings:

(setq helm-mode-fuzzy-match t
      helm-completion-in-region-fuzzy-match t)

According to https://github.com/emacs-helm/helm/wiki/Fuzzy-matching, the
make fuzzy matching work everywhere.

It seems to work ok for me.
