Thanks very much, that does what I want.
Also, regarding the manual being up-to-date or not, I took my instructions
from the page at http://orgmode.org/manual/Images-in-LaTeX-export.html which
does seem out of date as it says one should use
#+ATTR_LaTeX: width=5cm,angle=90
