Hello Matt (and thank you for your time!)=2C

= Typing =3B
$ sudo lsmod | grep pcspkr
in my termina= l does not give anything. It simply shows the next prompt (if I am using th= e correct terminology - I am new in emacs and Linux!).

I was able to change the value of the visible bell but I was not able = to find a corresponding option for the ring-bell-function. More specificall= y=2C the former comes up with a menu/button inside the buffer=2C which=2C i= f selected=2C allows one to modify value of the visible-bell. The latter (i= .e.=2C the ring-bell-function) does not offer such an option.
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Maybe it is the distribution that disables the audible bell.
Many thanks once more=2C

>=3B >=3B Dear all=2C
>=3B >=3B
>=3B >= =3B I have a question which may look like it is already answered but the>=3B >=3B solutions provided in previous threads don't really work for= me. FYI=2C I
>=3B >=3B am using a Linux Mint Isadora distribution a= nd I tried to run org-mode
>=3B >=3B both in a console-session of em= acs (emacs -nw) and in an emacs GUI. I
>=3B >=3B have tried to set a= n audible reminder for my appointments using:
>=3B >=3B
>=3B &g= t=3B (setq appt-audible t)
>=3B >=3B
>=3B >=3B For some reaso= n=2C this does not seem to work (the visible reminder works
>=3B >= =3B just fine). I am sure it does not have to do with volume as it works>=3B >=3B fine with other apps. BTW=2C the code I am using is collecte= d from
>=3B >=3B various threads and given that I know next to nothi= ng in LISP=2C I can
>=3B >=3B safely assume that this is probably th= e reason the whole audible
>=3B >=3B reminder thing is not working..= ..
>=3B >=3B
>=3B >=3B I was wondering whether anyone out th= ere could provide a bit of code to
>=3B >=3B set audible reminders i= n org-mode (preferably working in a console
>=3B >=3B too). I am tea= ching young people to use emacs and org-mode to do their
>=3B >=3B r= esearch and running emacs in a console is probably the best thing to
>= =3B >=3B do to to stop them from getting distracted from menus=2C toolbar= s and
>=3B >=3B other things!
>=3B
>=3B The first questio= n: Does your computer "beep" under other circumstances?
>=3B It's very= likely that Linux Mint disables the beep by default. What is
>=3B the= result the following command produce?
>=3B
>=3B lsmod | grep pc= spkr
>=3B
>=3B If pcspkr is enabled=2C you might want check the = value of the following
>=3B options with M-x describe-variable....
= >=3B
>=3B visible-bell
>=3B ring-bell-function
>=3B
&= gt=3B Best=2C
