To clarify, my output does not change by adding ox-beamer in .emacs, or by adding the beameroverlaydefaultspecification line in the file header.

In some earlier googleing, I'd found some mention of setting org-e-latex-classes, but that seems to be now changed to org-latex-classes, I believe.

Does adding

(require 'ox-beamer) in .emacs help?
