just to clarify, that was a proposed error message and a hypothesized
cause.  while i personally think an error in this case could be
useful, at least for people like myself who always export subtrees,
it's not huge.

just to clarify, i would always want to export them, but to be told by
org that i am referring to outside what i am exporting.
