If you are using biblatex/biber I think you would put that in a latex header, e.g. #+latex_header: \addbibresource{References.bib} Both of these are file-local though, and won't affect other files in that directory. the bibliography link is just for bibtex.= If you are using biblatex/biber I think you would put that in a latex head= er, e.g.

Yes, I used to have \addbibresource{References.bib}, but I wanted to
have the whole configuration on the .dir-locals.el file. I guess that
bibliography:References.bib is more general.
