But FWIW here was my first reaction: why don't you try to implement a new link type for message/mail buffers? Then you just need to access the source of the message, link to it, use relevant properties and insert them thru the template. :message-id would be one of the available properties. This might look more heavy than inserting elisp code directly in the template, but I just wanted to mention this might also be a way to do it. -- Bastien
