He suggested that it must be something funny in my org-setup (and pointed to previous issues like http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.orgmode/59337 and http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.orgmode/55412 - but neither of those seems to be my problem), so I thought I'd ask here. The work-around I mentioned seems to work perfectly well, I was just worried that there was some underlying problem in my setup that might cause additional problems at some point.
