Yes, you could do it like this:
#+BEGIN_SRC emacs-lisp
(remove-if (lambda (el)
(find-if (lambda (x)
(string-match-p x el))
expire-list))
list)
#+END_SRC
This way you can use regular expressions in the ignore list.
