Hi Karl,
Are you sure you are using the latest version of Org-mode?
I have the following in my init.el file (this is the whole file) and I
have not had any problems.
#+begin_src emacs-lisp
(setq warning-suppress-types nil
eshell-output-filter-functions nil)
(setq dotfiles-dir (file-name-directory (or load-file-name (buffer-file-name))))
(add-to-list 'load-path (expand-file-name
"lisp" (expand-file-name
"org" (expand-file-name
"src" dotfiles-dir))))
;; Load up Org Mode and Babel
(require 'org-install)
;; load up the main file
(org-babel-load-file (expand-file-name "starter-kit.org" dotfiles-dir))
#+end_src
Best -- Eric
