You insert a header as in * Intro Now you want to refer to it with a link As we have seen in section ... So what precisely are you typing? All I can say is this to motivate this feature: I am a long time user of auctex+reftex, and the functionality to have labels added (in a systematic way) automatically is a *great* time saver if you want to add clickable references (links) So I am curious to see how you do that.
