Did you try to reproduce the problem with a minimal Emacs configuration? emacs -q and a minial initialization file that just sets up Org mode and enables ido mode. This way you can rule out that the problem is caused by some package in you emacs initfile. I am using ido mode but / works fine here on Emacs 23.2.
