I just tried resetting org-grep-directories to nil here, as a way to force the default of org-directory, and it works well for me. Would you happen to be using Windows? I only tried it on Linux. It surely depend on "find" and "grep" being system commands. (And I should document that.) Fran=C3=A7ois
