No - but the error is different now either when cloning
anew:

$ git clone git://orgmode.org/org-mode.git
Cloning into 'org-mode'...
fatal: unable to connect to orgmode.org:
orgmode= .org[0: 104.239.132.130]: errno=3DConnection refused

or trying to update the existing repo:

$ git remote update
Fetching origin
fatal: unable to connect to orgmode.org:
orgmode= .org[0: 104.239.132.130]: errno=3DConnection refused

error: Could not fetch origin

Thanks! Yes, the git protocol uses another server program 'git-daemon', not the web server. Anyway, I found a configuration glitch and now it works again.
