Does anyone know if there are escape characters for the description part of a link? I need to use square brackets as this is required for the type of citation I'm doing. Can this be added to orgmode?

Is this possible? I have looked for escape characters, but have been unable to find any.
 
I'm using org-mode version 6.26d on emacs 23.0.60.1
