Writing an new org entry to a .gpg file - ends up in .org file instead

I have an org template set up like this and frequently use the journal
option

Notice the journal.gpg which has a first line :

so I can open the file in org mode just fine.

So far so good, but when I C-c C-c the new journal item its being
written to journal.org instead of journal.gpg.

I'm guessing I missed something in my browse of the manual, but what?
