I'm using org 6.33x. If you limit the col width with the special header
notation (e.g., "<35>"), org-export-as-html-to-buffer expands the "=>"
indicator literally. In org mode my table looks as follows:

| <35> | | |
| Rückfahrt | | |
|-------------------------------------+----------+----------------|
| St. Bartholomä | ab 16:30 | Schiff |
| Schönau (Königssee), ab Berchtesgad | ab 17:xx | Bus (z.t. SEV) |
                                  ^^^^

where the long field actually contains:

    #
    # Edit field and finish with C-c C-c
    #
Schönau (Königssee), ab Berchtesgaden weiter als SEV
                                    ^^^^

M-x org-export-as-html-to-buffer RET
==>
...
<tbody>
<tr><td>St. Bartholomä</td><td>ab 16:30</td><td>Schiff</td></tr>
<tr><td>Schönau (Königssee), ab Berchtesgaden weiter als SEV</td><td>ab 17:xx</td><td>Bus (z.t. SEV)</td></tr>
                                        ^^^^

Thanks for this great software!

Hi Karl,

I cannot reproduce this.

Are you using XEmacs, maybe?

No, but I should have mentioned that I'm using MacOSX 10.4.11 (PPC):

In GNU Emacs 23.1.90.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin8.11.0, NS apple-appkit-824.48)
 of 2009-12-14 on goethe.local
Windowing system distributor `Apple', version 10.3.824
configured using `configure '--with-ns''

BTW, it also exports the "<XY>" string:

Hi Karl,

I still cannot reproduce this.
Anybody else?

I can reproduce it from the simple input:

     | <35> | |
     | header | len |
     |-------------------------------------+-----|
     | Short line | 10 |
     | A loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong line | 62 |

However, it appears that the '=>' is only a display artifact in the
generated buffer, it is not saved to a file.

But the <XY> line is actually written:

     <tr><th scope="col">&lt;35&gt;</th><th scope="col"></th></tr>

** Versions used :
  - org-mode 6.33f
  - GNU Emacs 23.0.91.1
  - linux 2.6.28-17-generic (ubuntu 9.04 jaunty)

HTH.

Michelle

Ah, that clears it up. I had understood that the arrow shows up in
the browser.
But now I see it in the .html Emacs buffer, this is a left-over
display property.
Fixed, thanks.

Yes. You can get rid of it by adding a special first column and
putting a
"/" into the first column of lines you'd like to have removed.

At some point I had code that would do this automatically for lines
that only
have these cookies. But I removed it again because it was causing
trouble. Maybe I should in fact get a better version of that back
into the code - it would be nice
to make them go away automatically.....
