I use https://github.com/jkitchin/jmax/blob/master/org/doi-utils.org

It is some code I wrote to build bibtex entries from a doi, and to
download the pdf if you have access to it.

I load it like this:
(org-babel-load-file "doi-utils.org")

You need to define some variables like:

org-ref-pdf-directory

and some features depend on org-ref
(https://github.com/jkitchin/jmax/blob/master/org/org-ref.org).

I use these pretty often.
