As a follow up I can confirm that this is an issue in Emacs 23 (which,
of course, you already know).

Moving through links works fine on GNU Emacs 22.3.1
(i386-apple-darwin9.6.0, Carbon Version 1.6.0) on Mac OS 10.5.
