Sure.  I have

  (add-hook 'gnus-article-prepare-hook 'icalendar-import-buffer)

in my ~/.emacs file.  Read the comments at the top of icalendar.el .

You might need something like

  (autoload 'icalendar-import-buffer "icalendar"
    "Import iCalendar data from current buffer" t)

too.
