Ihor, you patched this, but I rebuilt Org and tried again and it fails with a 
*Messages* showing a slightly different error:

org-cite-basic--shorten-names: Wrong type argument: stringp, (raw nil #("van 
Dongen, M.R.C." 0 18 (:parent #0)))

Soon all of these bugs will be squashed!
