I do not need to manually remove the inbuilt emacs. I install org-mode with contrib included from elpa: org-plus-contrib is the package name you will see in the package manager. I have these in the following order: ;; For org-plus-contrib (add-to-list 'package-archives '("org" . "http://orgmode.org/elpa/") t) (package-initialize) That results in the elpa version of org-mode coming BEFORE the inbuilt version of org-mode in the load-path list. The first one read is used and the later one is ignored. Here is my full el file for package setup: https://github.com/kaushalmodi/.emacs.d/blob/master/setup-packages.el -- Kaushal Modi On Thu, Aug 6, 2015 at 12:02 PM, Achim Gratz wrote: > Sharon Kimble writes: > > So I'm now running with org-mode - > > > > ╭──── > > │Org-mode version 8.2.10 (release_8.2.10 @ > /usr/local/share/emacs/24.5.50/lisp/org/) > > ╰──── > > > > How can I remove this version please? > > > > How can I install the package manager version of org without the > > 'org-babel-etc' error message please? > > I can't test it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure this is a result of > Emacs' built-in Org being loaded before package manager gets to install > the newer release of Org.
