You can also export to an ascii buffer with  C-c C-e t A
and get the result from there.  Not sure if this is what you want, how important is it that the results is in the same buffer right away?

You mean orgtbl-to-tsv and related? All of that *is* part of Org mode. All you have to do is write a code block calling it
to convert.
