Using the latest version of Org-mode from the git repository, this is= a
very new feature and requires usage of the git version of Org-mode, I am seeing the desired behavior. =C2=A0After simply requiring ox-bibtex, the following

=C2=A0 =C2=A0 * H1
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 [[cite:(119=E2=80=93136)johansson36:_minim_formal]]

exports to

=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \begin{document}

=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \maketitle
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \tableofcontents

=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \section{H1}
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \label{sec-1}~\cite[119=E2=80=93136]{johansson36:_minim_forma= l}
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 % Emacs 24.4.50.2 (Org mode beta_8.3)
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 \end{document}

As expected.

I hope this helps,
Eric
