The second C- disappears.

I also get

  C-c C-.  ->  C-c .
  C-c C-;  ->  C-c ;
  C-c C-:  ->  C-c :
  C-c C-\  ->  C-c \
  C-c C-=  ->  C-c =

but

  C-c C-c  ->  C-c C-c
  C-c C-_  ->  C-c C-_
  C-c C-@  ->  C-c C-@

Gnome could potentially also be intercepting some keys.
