You could use the =changebar= style in latex and then enclose the text you want highlighted in a double environment combining changebar and quote: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- \begin{quote} \begin{changebar} ... text goes here ... \end{changebar} \end{quote} --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- Not tested. You may want =quotation= instead of =quote=.
