Sorry for delay in responding to this. I've been out of commission for
a while (long story) and I am now catching up on the org mailing list
finally.
This particular tutorial was for org v7.x and is not valid for the "new"
exporter (not so new any more :-).
The new exporter has its own very nicely written tutorial at:
http://orgmode.org/worg/exporters/beamer/ox-beamer.html
I have (hopefully) pushed a change to Worg so that the org-tutorials
page points to both the old and the new tutorials.
