What I meant is this: you need to call `org-sort-list-by-checkbox-type' *directly* on the list you want to sort -- not after `C-c ^ f'. `C-c ^ f org-sort-list-by-checkbox-type RET' will end up in loop because org-sort-list-by-checkbox-type contains a call to org-sort.
