Most of my latex usage is org->latex->pdf nowadays, so I don't bother to do it from the shell. On the rare occasions when I do it from the command line, I type the option explicitly if needed. My org-latex-pdf-process setting is (setq org-latex-pdf-process '("texi2dvi --shell-escape --pdf %f")) and I'm experimenting with (setq org-latex-pdf-process '("latexmk --shell-escape -pdf -xelatex %f")) HTH, Nick
