Message-mode handles txt mails well. There is some org extension for html mails (although I don't like html mails). IMAP should be fine. You can run it local if you want. I have F9 bring up the Gnus Group buffer. G for update. Elegant auto-fetching of new mails from foreign imap is something I have not solved yet. -- Enought with the bla bla!
