I think the point was that tramp on an unreliable network illustrates the problems with emacs's single-threaded implementation and not that it is otherwise related to email in emacs. Even on a reliable, yet slow, network, I do get frustrated sometimes when I have "sent" a very large email and cannot do anything in one of org documents until the message has actually been sent.
