Sorry, Carsten, I had included the information, Emacs 23.0.0.1 and Org-mode 4.68 in my original post, but that was lost because it followed the debugger information that didn't post. Anyway, I just found a new file, like this -*- org -*- ^ [point] did C-x C-s M-x revert-buffer and reproduced the error message.
