Subject: [feature request] Make org-refile include the source and target when refiling
Date: Sat, 17 Apr 2021 12:08:20 -0500	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <87blac96uz.fsf@gmail.com> (raw)

* Context

The current behavior of refiling an entry using =org-refile= when =org-log-refile= is set to =t= and =org-log-into-drawer= is set to =t= is

#+begin_src org
,* Refiled heading
,* Target
#+end_src

#+begin_src org
,* Target

,** Refiled heading
:LOGBOOK:
- Refiled on [2021-04-17 Sat 10:45] \\
  This is my note.
:END:
#+end_src

I would like to have the following behavior

#+begin_src org
,* Target heading

,** Refiled heading
:LOGBOOK:
- Refiled on [2021-04-17 Sat 10:45] from top level to "Target heading" \\
  This is my note.
:END:
#+end_src

when refiling from different files, it would be nice to have

#+begin_src org
,* Target heading

,** Refiled heading
:LOGBOOK:
- Refiled on [2021-04-17 Sat 10:45] from "~/my/org/main.org" to "~/my/org/refiled-events.org::Past events" \\
  This is my note.
:END:
#+end_src

* Information found

Found [[https://emacs.stackexchange.com/questions/36390/add-original-location-of-refiled-entries-to-logbook-after-org-refile][this]] at Emacs Stack Exchange that also asks this and was asked 3.4812545 years ago. The OP also created a [[https://orgmode.org/list/87k1nhidxf.fsf@nicolasgoaziou.fr/T/][thread]] in the Org Mode mailing list.

In a comment in that question, the following two questions are said to address this topic:

+ [[https://emacs.stackexchange.com/questions/47011/org-refile-and-leave-a-link-behind][org mode - Org : refile and leave a link behind]]
+ [[https://emacs.stackexchange.com/questions/36861/org-refile-leave-a-link-to-refiled-item][org mode - org-refile: leave a link to refiled item]]

* Personal thoughts

+ I'm a heavy user of the =:LOGBOOK:= feature so having this would be useful for me and, I guess, other users of this feaature.
+ I'm not saying that this behavior must be the default one, but there should be a variable for enabling it.
