Fake an autoload refering to some non-existing file or function in org-loaddefs.el in the Git worktree and try if you see that without doing a (require 'org). That some of the autoloads that come with Emacs happen to fall back onto the correct file via load-path is not something you want to rely on. That aside, there have been quite a few changes from at least Emacs 23 that moved functions to different files and/or changed their signature.
