But shouldn't org be consistent with LaTeX. In both org-mode and LaTeX I would write an in-line equation as $1+3=3$ and not as \[1+2=3\]. I would reserve the latter for an unlabelled block equation. As has been said, \[ is an alias for \begin{equation*}. For me, I would rather not write equations in org-mode differently from LaTeX. Best wishes, Colin Baxter.
