For example, in our company LaTeX clas= s, we have options like `black' for uncolored output, or `acro' for putting automatically an acronym sections. There are others as well. The number of combinations can explode quite quickly, so that the smart workaround of Eric is not usable outside of `beamer' and `beamerhandout'.
