GNU Emacs 23.2.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.20.0) of 2010-12-11 on raven, modified by Debian [C-mouse-3] works for me and I've never customized it to my knowledge. I also have the menus turned off. Maybe it's an emacs 24 thing? Regards, Bernt
