Excellent! I modified it slightly to keep the spaces in the display string:

          # hyperlinks
          s/\[\[([^]]*)\]\]/
          my $l = $1;
          my $orig = $1;
          $l =~ s: :_:g;
          "[[file:$l.org][$orig]]"/gex;
