I don't think the suggestions made in that thread are going to help in terms of org-mode recognizing a line as being a list item. What I tried that I did think might work was to customize org-list-full-item-re: org-list-full-item-re is a variable defined in ‘org-list.el’. Its value is "^[     ]*\\(\\*(?:[-+*]\\|\\(?:[0-9]+\\|[A-Za-z]\\)[.)]\\)*\\(?:[     ]+\\|$\\)\\)\\(?:\\[@\\(?:start:\\)?\\([0-9]+\\|[A-Za-z]\\)\\][     ]*\\)?\\(?:\\(\\[[ X-]\\]\\)\\(?:[ ]+\\|$\\)\\)?\\(?:\\(.*\\)[     ]+::\\(?:[     ]+\\|$\\)\\)?"   This variable may be risky if used as a file-local variable. Documentation: Matches a list item and puts everything into groups: *group 1: bullet* group 2: counter group 3: checkbox group 4: description tag to add '!' and '?' to '-+' in the group 1 expression, but that didn't do it.
